With the aim of assisting small holders to increase and improve production through adoption of affordable and sustainable solutions to mechanized land tillage, PCO has hitherto trained 150 small holders on animal traction in 6 locations in Jur River County. Animals used include both bulls and donkeys.
PCO has so far donated a total of 11 ox ploughs to 11 farmer groups after 2-weeks trainings on usage. The training is delivered using two bulls/donkeys and one ox-plough. PCO aims to pilot a fee-for-service animal traction model that will ensure animals are well cared for in the process.
PCO has already seen an increase in area under cultivation by an average of 38% amongst farmer groups as a result of the ox-ploughs distributed.
