PCO runs frontline agricultural extension projects alongside the training on animal traction. This has enabled PCO to demonstrate to the farmer’s effectiveness of an all- package best practice on farm production for markets.

Animal husbandry

With the aim of assisting small holders to increase and improve production through adoption of affordable and sustainable solutions to mechanized land tillage, PCO has hitherto trained 150 small holders on animal traction in 6 locations in Jur River County. Animals used include both bulls and donkeys.

Procurement of livestock

12 healthy bulls of between 1 year and 1.5 years were bought from the livestock local market in Wau with the help of a veterinary doctor from the MoAR for the first 6 groups (Marial Bai, Wadhalel, Kuajiena, Kuom, Achot and Barwol).

Procurement of seeds and tools

This activity was successfully carried out from the local market. Among the seed bought included sorghum, maize, ground nuts and vegetables that included tomato, onion, water melon, pumpkin and cucumber.
